CYDONIA 2000
Among the images released by NASA this week are landforms in
the Mars Cydonia region named "The Tholus" and "The Fortress".
They were captured by the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft in
mid-February of this year.

If you don't have the bandwidth or imaging tools to post-process
the unenhanced images you may enjoy these two JPEGs from The
Electric Warrior.

These images were flipped both horizontally and vertically so
that they have the appropriate orientation. If you examine the
NASA images you'll see the formations upside-down and mirrored.
They were also processed using a Histogram or EQ effect, which
redistributes the range of tonal values, resulting in a contrast
enhanced image.
------------------------------------------------------------
THE FORTRESS
This is a composite of the images labeled M04-01903 and M09-
05394. They were scaled, so that the surface features would
line up, then composited using contemporary image blending
software.
------------------------------------------------------------
THE THOLUS
This image was rotated and stretched to compensate for the
elongated, oval appearance of the original, labeled M03-00766.
