...A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR MIDDLESEX MONMOUTH AND OCEAN COUNTIES IN NEW JERSEY FOR THE THURSDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE... ...MINOR TIDAL FLOODING IS EXPECTED WITH THE HIGH TIDE THURSDAY EVENING IN NEW JERSEY... ...MINOR TIDAL FLOODING IS EXPECTED THURSDAY MORNING FROM THE DELAWARE COAST NORTHWARD THROUGH ATLANTIC COUNTY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY NJ HAS ISSUED A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING FOR THE THURSDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS...
IN NEW JERSEY... MIDDLESEX...MONMOUTH AND OCEAN COUNTIES.
THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF EXPECTED HIGH TIDES IN THE WARNED AREA...
LOCATION TIME OF HIGH TIDE EXPECTED HEIGHT
SANDY HOOK 705 AM THURSDAY 7.5 TO 8.0 FT 733 PM THURSDAY 6.5 TO 7.0 FT
SEASIDE HEIGHTS (OCEAN) 635 AM THURSDAY 7.3 TO 7.8 FT 703 PM THURSDAY 6.2 TO 6.7 FT
A STORM OVER THE DELMARVA PENINSULA WEDNESDAY EVENING WILL CONTINUE NORTHEAST AND OFF THE COAST OVERNIGHT. MEANWHILE...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD SOUTHEAST FROM CANADA OVER NEW ENGLAND. THE PRESSURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HIGH AND LOW WILL PRODUCE STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS ALONG THE NEW JERSEY COAST THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING. THE STRONGEST ONSHORE FLOW WILL OCCUR BETWEEN HIGH TIDE CYCLES OVERNIGHT AND SHOULD PREVENT INLETS AND BAYS FROM DRAINING COMPLETELY... ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTHERN HALF OF NEW JERSEY. WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE NORTH AS THE LOW PASSES EAST OF THE AREA THURSDAY...THEN RESUME A NORTHEAST FETCH LATER THURSDAY...AND CONTINUE FROM THE NORTHEAST THROUGH SATURDAY.
THE ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDE THURSDAY MORNING IS QUITE HIGH...AND WIDESPREAD BUT MINOR TIDAL FLOODING IS EXPECTED FROM ATLANTIC COUNTY NEW JERSEY SOUTHWARD THROUGH COASTAL DELAWARE. MINOR TO MODERATE TIDAL FLOODING IS EXPECTED FARTHER NORTH IN OCEAN...MIDDLESEX AND MONMOUTH COUNTIES NEW JERSEY...WITH THE GREATEST THREAT IN MIDDLESEX AND MONMOUTH COUNTIES.
FLOODING IN THE BACK BAYS OCCURS LATER THAN ALONG THE OCEAN FRONT. THE HIGHER THAN NORMAL TIDES AND HEAVY WAVE RUNUP WILL LIKELY RESULT IN AT LEAST SOME BEACH EROSION ALONG THE COAST...ESPECIALLY AROUND THE TIME OF HIGH TIDE.
A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING MEANS MODERATE OR GREATER COASTAL FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. MODERATE TIDAL FLOODING BEGINS AT AROUND 7 AND A HALF FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER. COASTAL RESIDENTS IN THE WARNED AREA SHOULD BE ALERT FOR RISING WATER...AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY.
ANOTHER STORM IS FORECAST TO PASS JUST TO THE SOUTH AND EAST OF NEW JERSEY AND DELAWARE LATE FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT...WHICH WILL INCREASE THE NORTHEAST WINDS AGAIN...AS WELL AS THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL COASTAL FLOODING FROM LATE FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY MORNING. THE EXPECTED FARTHER SOUTHWARD TRACK WOULD MAKE THE ENTIRE DELAWARE AND NEW JERSEY COASTS VULNERABLE TO TIDAL FLOODING AT THAT TIME. IN ADDITION...WINDS WILL REMAIN PRIMARILY ONSHORE BETWEEN THE STORM OF TONIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING AND THE NEXT ONE ON FRIDAY NIGHT. STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...YOUR LOCAL RADIO OR TELEVISION STATIONS...OR YOUR CABLE TELEVISION OUTLET FOR FURTHER DETAILS OR UPDATES. ADDITIONAL WEATHER INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET AT WWW.ERH.NOAA.GOV/PHI. ONCE ON OUR SITE...GO TO THE MARINE PAGE AND THEN LOOK FOR TIDAL IMPACT TABLES FOR YOUR LOCATION.
