Solar Activity Still Heavy
Over the past five days, there have been a total of 65 C-class
flares, 16 M-class flares, and 2(3) X-class flares. This is by far
the largest number of continuous flaring I have seen in the four
years I have been paying attention to this phenomenon. The
geomagnetic index, an indication of the magnetic effects on Earth of
solar mass ejections, is now at 76.8, a significant level higher than
during the so-called solar maximum of 2001 (57.4) and 2002 (64.1).
Where this is taking us, I have no clue, except to reiterate that
a
tremendous amount of energy is coming into the Earth
now.

There was actually three X-Class flares, but what is important here
is that many researches, at many different places are recognizing the
extremely heightened activity ongoing at the Sun, activity that is
bound to affect Earth.
