It's back. Every 3.3 years, Comet Encke swoops back into our inner Solar System. First officially discovered in 1786, Comet Encke is on its 59 th documented return, making it one of the best-studied comets on the sky. Mysteriously, Comet Encke should have been discovered millennia earlier, since it likely became bright enough to see unaided many times over the past few thousand years. Sun on Dec 29. |

"Others [terrorists] are engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves So there are plenty of ingenious minds out there that are at work finding ways in which they can wreak terror upon other nations It's real, and that's the reason why we have to intensify our [counterterrorism] efforts." --Secretary of Defense William Cohen

RUSSIAN SCIENTISTS QUESTION ORIGINS OF OIL Basically the theory questions our commonly held idea that oil is created by the rotting remains of dinosaurs and ancient vegetation. In an introduction it says, "In short, and bluntly, petroleum is not a fossil fuel and has no intrinsic connection with dead dinosaurs (or any other biological detritus) in the sediments (or anywhere else)." The theory proposes that oil comes from a much deeper source within the earth than currently believed, and that it is "abiotic," that is it is NOT the result of "rotted" biological materials that were once on the surface of earth.
