5/8/00 RHIC REPORT: Over the weekend, beam was injected into the Yellow ring and circulated for over 100 turns. A scan of the dipole buss was made to match the strength of the bend magnets to the injected beam momentum. It was noted that the physical aperture appears open and large.

ELFRAD CAM 5/9/00: whatever it was, it firewalled the detectors.

Hi Kent,

This is a strange coincidence, but early Sunday morning I had a dream relating to BNL. I was in some airport (not sure where) and trying to get to Islip, but all flights to there were cancelled. It stuck with me as I woke up. This seemed pretty weird at the time, but even more so when I clicked on your website a couple hours later to see Brookhaven as the top headline! It's been 5 years since my last time there and I haven't thought about it for a while. Maybe it's just a coincidence :) or maybe it's a premonition. I had the strongest urge to write to you about this tonight and to describe how some of the system at BNL works. So here goes...

The 'beam' starts out from building 105 which houses the Tandem Van de Graaff generators. These huge electrostatic generators are capable of generating tremendously high electrical voltage which is used to 'excite' the target element (cobalt was used in most of the work I did there) into emitting high energy proton particles. These particles are 'steered' and 'focused' using a combination of permanent magnets, electromagnets and electrostatic plates. The beam travels through a big stainless steel 'pipe' which is under very high vacuum (10-6 to 10-7 torr) and has inside conditions very much like those found in outer space. From here, the beam goes through the transfer tubes into 2 stages of linear (DC) magnetic acceleration (booster and AGS) to reach almost the speed of light. After passing through the linear accelerator magnetics, the particles are injected into the RHIC tunnels. These are about 2.5 miles long and run parallel to one another. The original stream of particles is split into 2 smaller beams traveling in opposite directions. Here the particles get their last 'kick' with very high energy RF electromagnets which are cold enough (just above absolute zero) to allow superconductivity and hence a very powerful electromagnetic field. The RF magnets 'pulse' the particles up to tremendous speeds and at the end of the 2.5 mile trip the 2 beams collide with one another. This is probably redundant information that you already have and surely available elsewhere on the net, but I felt compelled to write you about it. Keep up the good detective and reporting work out there. Maybe if enough of us wake up and see what's really going on we can help make some changes for the better... Or at least be prepared for what's coming :)

BTW, I think you're on to something looking at the base reflectivity maps for Upton/Brookhaven. Certainly all the EM activity generated by the RHIC 's big RF magnets will show up on the local radar receiver. They have been firing up pretty steady tonight from 9PM EDT (0100Z) on... It's interesting comparing br with the 'standard' weather radar maps. No rain showing in the standard pix, but sure a big 'splash' on br!

Last Night at 9:45 KXAS came with a breaking news announcement. They said that a nuclear transport got into an accident and that they don't have a lot of details yet. Location was near Austin on I-35 and the Interstate was shut down both directions. KXAS also said that they have heard that National Guard units are supposed to be activated and they are waiting for further details.

I have not heard ANYTHING about this SINCE then. Monitored several radio broadcasts and TV broadcasts locally and NOTHING.

I stumbled onto the link which was posted today at Rumor Mill News. The book was completed in April 2000, and can be downloaded for free, all 376 pages. I'd recommend you download it for your readers, cause I can't imagine it being available for long.
