AWESOME ASTRONOMY
New images taken by the HiRISE camera on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) 2 show hills and plateaus with alternating layers of dark and light colored rocks in Candor Chasma, one of several canyons that make up Valles Marineris, a sprawling Martian rift valley that is longer than the contiguous United States and up to seven times deeper than the Grand Canyon in places. Cutting like a vertical scar across these light and dark bands in Candor Chasma are a series of linear cracks surrounded by “halos” of light-colored bedrock [image]. In the Feb. 16 issue of the journal Science, University of Arizona researchers Chris Okubo and Alfred McEwen argue that the halos are proof that some form of fluid—either water, liquid carbon dioxide or a combination of the two—once flowed through the bedrock. a warrior was born every 20 years to the clans of Mars. These people were
the only warriors that existed on a planet of less than 200 million. As they
neared their 20th birthdays, they would step down and the younger generation
would take over. Although no one really knew why the warriors existed, they
kept the legend alive. Approximately 10,000 years ago our time, the warriors
were called upon to protect their planet.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- No one expects to lose much sleep over it but, for the record, NASA has been sued by three men from Yemen for invading Mars. The three say they own the red planet, and claim they have documents to prove it. "We inherited the planet from our ancestors 3,000 years ago," they told the weekly Arabic-language newspaper Al-Thawri, which published the report Thursday [1997].

martian fossils best bet for locating Mars life
Researchers at Glasgow University say a huge rock formation on the planet's surface is probably a giant fossil created billions of year ago by microbes... the Glasgow team believes that photographs of the fossil on the white rock - a 17km-wide feature in a giant crater - are the strongest proof to date of life on the red planet. |
