FUTURE HISTORY JOURNAL: Plans for a Mars base to become a reality will be possible with minimum refinements in existing technologies. Should NASA or a consortium of space-faring governments begin to make serious plans for a pioneering colony on Mars, there are infinite possibilities that can lead to the establishing of a habitat of long duration. LIFE ON MARS? Nanobacteria the Mars-earth life-strand.

The discovery of novel, living nano-organisms growing on Triassic and Jurassic sandstones opened up an exciting area of research in 1997. The existence of nano-sized organisms has been proposed for a number of years by geologists who refer to a range of mineralised structures in rocks as the fossil remnants of nanobacteria. Bacteria range in size from 150nm (Mycoplasmas)-50µm in diameter while the proposed nanobacteria are an order of magnitude smaller with diameters reported to range from 20nm-150nm. Further interest in nanobacteria was fuelled by the discovery of similar nano-sized structures in the Martian meteorite ALH84001 in 1996.

An article referenced in Eastlund's patent application for the device now known as HAARP ran in the New York Times on September 22, 1940 and reads as follows:

One of these is a method of apparatus for producing rays 'and other manifestations or energy' in free air, eliminating the necessity for a high vacuum; a second is a method and process for producing 'very great electrical force'; the third is a method for amplifying this force, and the fourth is a new method for producing 'a tremendous electrical repelling force.'

This would be the projector, or gun, of the system. The voltage for propelling the beam to its objective, according to the inventor, will attain a potential of 50,000,000 volts.
